Welcome to our Beta Test!

Thanks so much for volunteering to help us test our new products, so we can make them even better.

To contact us about the beta program, please use the beta@starchytuber.com email address. This will ensure that your questions & comments end up in the right place.

What you need to participate

You must have either an iPhone or iPod Touch, and you must be willing to test the application and report any bugs you find.

Beta Installation How-to

Step 1: Provide us with your device ID

You need to email to us the unique device ID for your iPhone or iPod Touch so we can add your device to the list of "approved" devices for the Beta build. You only need to do this once, no matter how many beta tests you participate in.

Here are step by step directions for getting this information from iTunes:

  1. Connect your iPod or iPhone to your computer, and run iTunes.
  2. Select your iPhone in the DEVICES list on the left of the iTunes window, and click on the Serial Number displayed in the Summary tab of the iPhone info. This will display the UDID for your device.
  3. Select "Copy" from the Edit menu in iTunes.
  4. Paste the UDID into a new email and send it to beta@starchytuber.com
  5. Wait until you hear back from us before proceeding to the next step. If you download the application and profile before your iPhone has been added to the approved list, you won't be able to install them.

Step 2: Install the application

  1. Download the application by clicking on this link. The application will be downloaded as a compressed file (a .ZIP file). You need to decompress the file before you can copy it to your iPhone.
  2. On Mac OS you should be able to decompress that .ZIP file by double-clicking it. On Windows, click with the right mouse button and select "Extract All...". This will create an PuzzleTwistBeta folder. Inside that folder will be two items, the PuzzleTwist application, and a mobileprovision file.
  3. Drag the application to the Applications list in the iTunes window.
  4. The Application that you just copied should show up in the Applications category of the iTunes Library.
  5. Copy the mobileprovision file to the same location. It will not show up in the Applications list, but will be copied when you sync your iPhone.
  6. If you see a warning about the provisioning profile already existing, just click "Replace".
  7. Sync your iPhone or iPod using iTunes. The new application will appear on your iPhone.
  8. Once you've successfully synced the application to your iPhone, you can delete PuzzleTwistBeta files from your computer.

Step 3: Testing

Please try solving a few of the puzzles.

They are arranged in more-or-less increasing difficulty, but you can skip around as much as you like. We'd particularly like feedback about any puzzles that seem much easier or much harder than the other puzzles near them in the list.

Known problems you don't need to report

  1. None, actually.

How to report problems

Unexpected behavior

If the application does something strange, send an email to beta@starchytuber.com describing what happened, and what you would have expected.

If possible, send a screen capture of what the problem looked like. You can capture what's on the screen of your iPhone by holding down the power button, then pressing the Home button. This will save the contents of the screen as a photo, which you can then sync to your computer.

Crashes

If the application crashes, it should leave a crashreport file on your computer the next time you sync using iTunes. The location will vary, depending on your operating system:

Mac OS X:

/Users/<USERNAME>/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/<DEVICE_NAME>
Windows XP:

C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Application Data\Apple computer\Logs\CrashReporter/<DEVICE_NAME>

Windows Vista: C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Apple computer\Logs\CrashReporter/MobileDevice/<DEVICE_NAME>

In all cases, the <USERNAME> should be replaced with your login name, and the <DEVICE_NAME> will be the name of your iPod or iPhone, as displayed in iTunes.

Once you find the crash logs, you'll be looking for a file whose name starts with "PuzzleTwist". E-mail that file, along with a description of what you were doing just before the crash, to beta@starchytuber.com.
